When you’re an award-winning actress, model, film producer/director, and brand ambassador in Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, with intercontinental crossover appeal, you probably don’t need much introduction. However, if you’re new to Nigeria’s booming movie industry (reportedly the world’s 2nd largest film industry), you most likely have some catching up to do on celebrity actress, Stephanie Okereke (now Linus). With scores of movie credits under her belt – both in front of and behind the screens – and having shared a stage with such greats as Meryl Streep, Stephanie is certainly poised to take on the entertainment industry.
However, Stephanie took on her most rewarding challenge thus far, when she planned a wedding for the ages to the man of her dreams, international media consultant and PR guru, Idahosa Linus. Folks, this wedding will take your breath away. Inspired by the idea of a “royal fairy tale wedding”, the final results of this celebration of love were breathtaking. From the bride’s perfect “Euterpe” by Elie Saab wedding dress, to every element of the decor and insanely beautiful centuries-old French abbey venue, no detail was left to chance. What makes this even more perfect is the obvious love, friendship and partnership these two share. Nothing is more special than that!
Enough words, though! This is a feast for the eyes, with images by Ian Holmes of Ian Holmes Photography. :) Also, keep an eye out for the perfectly shot video of this very special day!
Bride: Stephanie Linus (nee Okereke) Groom: Idahosa Linus Location: Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay, Cernay-la-Ville, France Wedding Date: 04.21.2012
How He Proposed ….. “He had a surprise birthday party for me and proposed in front of my friends and family. It was really beautiful!”
Wedding Details ….. “It was a challenge, but God was faithful! From traveling back and forth to source for the particular location we had in mind (because we knew how we wanted our wedding to look and feel), to meeting our wedding planners – who were awesome by the way- to choosing all the wedding details, getting through the visa process, flight charters, and hotel reservations, and the anticipation of everyone arriving and getting back safely, it made for a very intense but quite an amazing experience. Wow! Overall, our wedding theme and inspiration was to have a Royal Fairy tale Wedding with an African and Parisian feel.”
Incorporating Culture ….. “We incorporated culture in almost everything: from the church service to the menu, music and even some of our guests’ attires.”
The Most Unforgettable Moment ….. “Wow! It’s really difficult to pick one because there were numerous memorable moments. From our vows to each other, walking out of the church as husband and wife, and our first dance, to the amazing fireworks that got everyone crying, hugging, and reaffirming their belief in love, the atmosphere was filled with love. That was really beautiful and lovely, and the most exhilarating experience we’ve ever had.”
Austin and Andre knew they wanted an intimate wedding with beautiful views, so the Beach Palace in Cancun Mexico was the perfect destination. Who doesn’t love a gorgeous view? Thanks to Sarah Esther for sharing these images with us. Scroll down below to learn more about the couple.
Bride: Austin Walker
Groom: Andre Walker
Wedding date: 7/23/2011
Location: Cancun, Mexico
From the bride…
“Our event in Cancun was amazing! The views were beautiful! Andre and I love to travel and specifically, enjoy warm weather and blue water. Fifty of our closest friends and family came out to celebrate our union. We where married on the roof veranda over looking the ocean at 5 pm with an outdoor reception following.”
{You Make Loving You So Easy}
He loves…Andre loves how I take care of him. I make sure that he eats well and is comfortable in our home. I want my man to feel like a king!
She loves..My husband is so funny and silly. We have so much fun together! I am living with my best friend!
From the photographer:
“This fabulous couple has family throughout the states, which prompted them to plan a destination wedding in Cancun. They wanted their friends and family to be able to have a wonderful time (and a mini vaycay) while celebrating their wedding. Austin and Andre chose the Beach Palace by Wyndham in Cancun as their location. The luxury hotel appealed to their style as a couple, and catered to their every wedding wish. The hotel’s wedding package was all inclusive, allowing the couple to relax and enjoy their time in Mexico rather than worrying about last minute planning. Austin designed special canvas goodie bags for the guests and bridal party. They included anything you would need for the beach (sunscreen, chapstick, etc), and a custom hot sauce to represent the couple’s love for spicy things. Each of the groomsmen had a custom pair of Converse Chuck Taylors, made just for them with their suit. Andre has a love for the shoe and so it was a given that they would be incorporated. The wedding took place on the rooftop of the hotel, overlooking both the Caribbean ocean and the Cancun bay. They were married at sunset amidst a gorgeous orange and teal background. As a surprise, Austin planned for fireworks to go off at the moment that the couple had their first kiss. The reception took place on the rooftop as well, with an open bar, buffet line, and a DJ playing the couple’s favorite music. The party lasted well into the night as about 50 friends and family celebrated with them.”
Michelle did what most women dream of: she married a chef! If romance is the food of love, Michelle will definitely have a lot of “food” to take along the journey. :) Michelle first fell in love with Simeon’s great cooking, after she was introduced to his place of work by a friend. While receiving compliments from Michelle’s friend on his culinary prowess, they all stuck a friendship. The friendship soon transitioned into love.
How He Proposed ….. “One night, we were talking in the parking lot. He was sitting in the driver’s seat and I was outside. He usually would say, “We should get married…” and I would always say “We should!”. This [particular] evening, he came out and stood next to me. Then, he started to get down on one knee and said, “I’ve got to make this fast because when I go down, I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to get back up!” Then, he asked me to marry him. I laughed and told him, “Yes”. The next evening, he gave me my ring. He folded a dollar into a make-shift ring and placed it on my finger and that was it. We were engaged!”
Planning the Wedding ….. “We planned for a wedding ceremony that would allow us to share our special day with those we care about. We had 50 or our closest family and friends dine with us after the ceremony. I had an amazing planner, Freda Madrisotti, that took care of everything. I have to admit that I thought this would be something I could do on my own, but my father felt that I was keeping him out of the loop, and he hired Freda. Thank God! I would never have had the time or opportunities to handle all of the details the way she did. From floral to food, everything was executed just as Brenny and I wanted because of our planner and the input of family and close friends. The most challenging thing was deciding how to accommodate everyone; but once we decided on an intimate reception, we were able to invite everyone to our ceremony. It was important to us both.”
Theme & Details ….. “Green is my favorite color, but I didn’t think green would be strong enough for a January wedding. So, I went for red. It’s bold and rich. It was difficult to find the right dresses online, but I went into one store and found exactly what my girls would wear. It sounds silly but I went with the #1 for everything: the first dress I tried, I bought; the first bridesmaid’s dress was the right one; and first invitation and program [samples] were what I chose. I went for a beautiful after-Christmas wedding. The Christmas trees were still up in my church and we had wonderful red carpet and some red decor to enhance the girls’ dresses. It was a bit vintage and traditional. It was amazing.”
{You Make Loving You So Easy}
He loves ….. “He knows that I support him. One of the things he always says is that he’s never had or known support like this before. It’s important for him to know that whenever he needs me, I’m there. And no matter what he decides, we’re in it together.”
She loves ….. “He’s so caring and thoughtful. I get flowers at work for no reason at all. He loves me and is [always] thinking of me. I don’t have to guess how he feels because he’s not afraid to show affection.”
We can never get enough of culture here at Munaluchi, and this Indian and Nigerian multicultural wedding in Jamaica is filled to the brim with it. The bride and groom met during medical school in Chicago during an OB rotation. And their proposal was so romantic – Jude proposed on a flight to Miami…30,000 feet in the air! He had the captian announce for Sharan to stand, then then he proposed. So sweet.
For their rich cultural July 2011 wedding, a destination was the best option since families would be flying in from all across the globe – Sharan is of East Indian heritage, and Jude of Nigerian heritage. Enjoy this cultural expression of love with gorgeous images thanks to Rebecca of Studio b Photography.
From the bride… We come from two rich cultural backgrounds, East Indian for me and Nigerian for my husband. We have family spread out all over the world and decided the best way to get everyone together and have fun was a destination wedding. We had 3 separate ceremonies- the traditional Sikh Anand Karaj, the Nigerian traditional wedding and then the christian ceremony.
The planning was a fun experience, and having a destination wedding makes things easier. There was an onsite wedding planner that helped with most arrangements. Family and friends helped immensely with a lot of the traditional details.

There’s photography, then there’s storytelling. When we scrolled through Adam Alex’s 4 part journal entry displaying the most beautiful images of Amber Ridinger and Duane McLaughlin’s wedding, we were floored. So pretty, so subtle, so divine, so easy.
This is how stories are told…one frame at a time. The decor was done by Preston Bailey...can’t you tell? Flowers arranged in perfect harmony with details not overlooked…And Amber’s dress was the icing on the cake. Designed by J’Aton Couture, and worth every penny.
We’re sharing a few of our favorites, and you can see the full story on Adam’s website www.adamalex..com/journal
Have you heard the saying “we were destined to be together”? Destination as defined, is the purpose for which something is destined or the place to which a person or thing travels. Many of us are happy to meet the person we’re destined to fall in love with and marry. When we marry that person in a gorgeous destination wedding, it’s as if we’ve gotten an extra blessing with an included honeymoon!
Destination weddings don’t always have to be on a warm tropical island. They’re often the home town where either the bride or groom grew up, allowing family to reconnect. Destination weddings have several benefits.
My top five are:
Destination weddings are an easy way to have a wedding and a honeymoon combined.
If you’re having trouble with narrowing down your guest list, a destination wedding is a way to keep the guest count small and intimate. While at your wedding, you can savor the time spent with each of your guests and thank them for coming to your chosen destination.
Destination weddings can also be more cost effective. With a smaller guest list, it’s less money to worry about food, seating, decor, and most of your overall wedding budget.
Destination weddings have been known to be mini family reunions. With many families spread out today, many couples are planning destination wedding over an extended weekend, incorporation festivities, and including some family bonding.
Whether you’ve chosen to get married in a tropical setting or in your childhood city, getting married in another destination provides amazing and often sentimental photo backdrops! You’ll be able to look back on your wedding day and connect it with a favorite vacation spot, the spot where you met, or the place where you grew up.
If you’re planning a destination wedding, we’ve gathered some of our favorite destination weddings, previously featured, to provide inspiration. Enjoy!

Quellie and Nahshon’s love story will make you believe that fate can really make dreams come true. This gorgeous couple unexpectedly met at a seafood restaurant in Atlanta. Within a few seconds of seeing each other for the first time, they knew they had met their perfect match and nervously tried to not miss the opportunity. Quellie is not the kind of lady who pursues men, but there was something about Nahshon that inspired her to write her number on a napkin and pass it to him on her way out. Unbeknownst to her, Nahshon was writing his number on a napkin to give to her. Their relationship blossomed into a deeper bond that is evident in the loving chemistry seen between them. Wait until you read about Nahshon’s creative proposal, featuring a fortune cookie, a DJ, and a Panda bear costume. Quellie, from Liberia, and Nahshon, from Jamaica, decided to have their destination wedding in Jamaica and share an intimate and romantic island fusion experience with their family and friends. Quellie recalls, “There were so many memorable parts of the wedding, but If I must narrow them down, I would have to say the look on Nahshon’s face as I walked down the aisle and the undeniable love and positive energy that was in the air that day.” Inspired by the beach and good-feeling vibes in Jamaica, their wedding featured a chic and elegant theme with a peach, orange, and cream color palette. You will also be inspired by Quellie’s graceful style, from her Oleg Cassini lace wedding gown to her gorgeous dreadlocks updo. Their beautiful wedding was photographed by Karl Anderson.
We met on Saturday March 13, 2010. The day started off like a typical Saturday which consisted of shopping, lunching, and chatting with my girlfriend. While we were shopping, my friend Liza decided that she was hungry and wanted seafood so I took her to this restaurant where they serve all you can eat crab legs. As fate would have it, Nash was craving crawfish and his friend decided to take him to the same place. Once we were seated, I decided to get a plate of crab legs and that’s when I first saw Nash. He was standing there with a big smile on his face with a plate full of crawfish. As I got closer to him, the only words he could seem to find were “I like your hair” to which I responded “thanks”. When I got back to my table, I started telling Liza about the tall, chocolate man with locs that I had run into while getting my food. Before I could finish telling her about this mystery man, she interrupted me and asked “did you get a good look at him? He is BEAUTIFUL”! Right at that moment, we noticed that he was sitting directly across from us on the other side of the restaurant and I saw just how beautiful he was. In that moment, I decided that I would write my number on a napkin and drop it off by his table on our way out. Once we were done, I picked up a napkin and nervously walked over to his table and gave him my number. He sent me a text right away and we have been together ever since.
The Proposal came as a total surprise to me. It happened on Saturday February 4, 2012. The Thursday before he proposed, Nash flew back to Miami to get the rest of his things as he was in the process of relocating to Atlanta. While he was gone, my girlfriend Liza (the same one I was with when I first met Nash) decided that we would just have a girl’s weekend. So that Saturday morning, she came and picked me up and we went to our dance class. After class, we were hungry so she suggested having lunch at the same restaurant Nash and I had first met. Completely oblivious to what was going on I went along. Once we were done eating, our fortune cookies were brought to the table and I proceeded to read mine aloud. It said “grin and bear it and all your dreams will come true”. I remember thinking to myself that’s a weird fortune but, oh well. After lunch we went our separate ways to get ready for the evening. That evening, Liza and I went to the roof top at the Glenn Hotel for drinks (one of Nash’s and mine favorite places in the city). Upon arrival, there was someone dressed in a Panda bear costume with a pink bow around the neck which I thought was a little strange but I still had not put two and two together. I continued on to the bar to say hi to another girlfriend of mine who works the bar and she “explained” why the bear was there. While I was doing that, Liza found us seats right next to the DJ. As we sat and sipped our cocktails, the DJ started playing all my favorite songs. I remember thinking to myself …man this DJ is good! After playing a few of songs, he changed it up a bit and started playing Moves like Jagger (which was Nash’s favorite song at the time). At that time, I noticed the Panda bear dancing and I turned to Liza and said “if I did not know for a fact that my boyfriend was in Miami, I would swear he was in that suit”. She responded… “your boyfriend dances like a bear?” And of course I was like “NO! It’s just the person in the suit is dancing like Nash”. After that song ended, the DJ started playing Forever by R. Kelly ( if you’ve never heard the song, he repeats the lyrics marry me several times as the song is coming to an end). I was so caught up in my own world dancing and singing that I was unaware of what was going on around me. Right as the song was ending, I just happened to look up and there was my Nash standing there with a huge smile on his face. At that moment, I finally realized what was about to happen and started screaming OH MY GOODNESS!!! That’s when my baby sister (Nykita) who had been hiding the entire time jumped out and she and Keyatta (the bartender) helped Nash out of the bear costume. Once out of the costume, he stood there looking very dapper if I must say so myself – in a tailored three-piece suit. After that, the DJ introduced Nash and handed him the mic. By this time I was so excited and emotional; I honestly don’t remember everything Nash said. All I remember is he got down on one knee and started to ask me if I would make him the happiest man alive and spend the rest of my life with him. According to my sister, I didn’t even let him finish asking. I jumped out of my seat and shouted “YES !!!”
Now I know you are all a little curious about that weird fortune cookie and how he got back to Atlanta without me knowing. Well, let me put an end to your curiosity. He ordered the fortune cookies online and had them delivered to Liza’s house so she would have them when we went out to lunch. As for him getting to Atlanta, he rented a car and drove 12 hours from Miami back to Atlanta to surprise me. This was and still is the BEST surprise of my life!
The Wedding
Our wedding was at the Paradise Cannon Villas, which is located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The planning process was overall an enjoyable one. We went into it determined not to stress ourselves out or allow anyone else to stress us out. With that being said, we made a conscious decision not to silicate advice from anyone other than our wedding coordinator and we must say that was the best decision we could have ever made. At times, it was a bit challenging but simply because it was a destination wedding and majority of the planning was done via phone and email.
As far as a theme for our wedding, we can’t say we really had one. We knew we wanted it to be on the beach and we knew we wanted it to be intimate as well as fun (a big party to celebrate our union with our closest friends and family) which is why we chose the Villas as our venue instead of a resort.
If I had to describe my wedding day style, it would have to say it was chic yet elegant. Before I went dress shopping, I did what every good bride does. I looked through several wedding magazines and websites to get ideas so that I would be prepared once I decided to go looking for a dress. The day I went, I took my Mom and my youngest sister. David’s Bridal was our first stop. The minute we walked in, the bridal consultant took one look at me and said “I have the perfect dress for you”. In the back of my mind I was thinking… she probably says this to every bride but in this case it was true. Once we started looking at dresses, she pulled the dress she had previously mentioned. It was a strapless lace dress designed by Oleg Cassini. At first glance, I must say it was not love at first sight but I decided I would try it on anyway. After trying on the 12th dress, I was tired and ready to go home when my sister said “we are already here so you might as well try the dress on”. As I was putting the dress on, my feelings slowly began to change and by the time I was in the dress and standing in front of the mirror, I was in LOVE and in tears. I immediately envisioned myself walking down the aisle and getting married in the dress.
My husband is from Jamaica and I am from Liberia and since the wedding was in Jamaica, we wanted our guests to walk away with a true island experience and we did that through the food and the music. During the cocktail hour, our guests nibbled on island infused hors d’oeuvres such as tender pork medallion skewers with plantain. During dinner, Karl Hart continued with the island fusion. The menu included items such as Breadfruit croquette in a coconut reduction, Chicken Callaloo Kiev, curry goat and of course rice and peas. Once dinner was over, the party started and we danced the night away to the DJ playing both Jamaican and African tunes.
You Make Loving You So EasyFrom him…He loves my existence (my sassiness, style, and my cooking)From her…I love the way he loves me. His love is so pure and genuine, it brings out the very best in me.
Intimacy …. that’s all you’ll feel. The warm embrace of intimacy, as you look at every image of Renita Croney and Rhys Powell’s wedding in Nassau, Bahamas. With endless beach sands, tall palm trees, the lull of the ocean breeze, and the audience of only their closest friends and family members, Renita and Rhys looked into each other’s eyes and said, “I do!” With soft colors perfect for an intimate beach ceremony, and food and music as a nod to their respective Bahamian and Guyanese culture, the couple gave a nod to their Caribbean heritage. Their wild card was the inclusion of almost 40 candelabras (some of which were up to 3 feet!) which proved to be a challenge to transport to Nassau. Like the caress of the warm ocean breeze, Renita and Rhys have found a love that is both awe-inducing and familiar. Thanks to Jeremy Harwell for these lovely photos.

The proposal
“We met through mutual friends but it was completely unplanned, which was the fun part. The day Rhys proposed he took me on a romantic excursion of New York City, visiting our favorite places. It was the best evening, and just when I thought the night was all over, he stopped me in the middle of the street while walking home… the next thing I knew he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was so shocked and nervous I started laughing and repeating “No way”, I didn’t realize he was waiting for a “Yes”. Of course I gave him one!”
Incorporating culture
“We wanted the wedding to reflect our Caribbean backgrounds; he’s Bahamian and I’m Guyanese. In our cultures, food and music play a major factor. Rhys put together a great playlist for the DJ including Reggae and Calypso songs and our mothers hosted Saturday and Sunday brunches filled with traditional Bahamian and Guyanese food.”

A passing glance and a subtle smile was all it took for Leslia and Leander to believe in love at first sight. From the moment they met, this handsome couple knew they had an undeniable chemistry, but it was Leander’s chivalry that sealed the deal for Leslia. She shares, “Leander is a perfect gentleman. Before he asked me out on a first date, he approached my father and got his approval, which is admirable.” When Leander was ready to propose, he again asked Leslia’s father for permission and popped the question on her birthday!
Their luxurious winter wedding had a “Royal Winter Elegance” theme that showcased the sweet, whimsical and nostalgic nature of love, while incorporating Leslia’s impeccable sense of style and glamour. Guests were transported into a magical winter wonderland the second they walked into the ceremony space. The church had been transformed into mystical winter landscape through the use of all white décor, and an assortment of white flowers that hung from tree branches to create the appearance of a snow on a winter day. Everyone was equally mesmerized when they entered the royal reception space, which featured stunning flower arrangements and textured table linens in shades of purple, blush and white. At the center of amazing reception décor stood a towering six tier, white wedding cake that was reminiscent of an enchanted ice castle.
While the décor was simply stunning, all eyes were on Leslia who looked like a queen in her custom made gown. She shares, “Having been in many beauty pageants and representing my country around the world, my aim was to find a gown that made me feel like a ‘bride.’ Through my travels I was introduced to a designer, Mr. Juan Carlos Pinera, and I expressed to him what I was looking for and how I wanted an amazing wedding gown that would be both beautiful and memorable!” Indeed Leslia was unforgettable in her first dress, a Juan Carlos Pinera dropped waist gown with crystal embellishments along the bodice. She complimented her regal look with a crystal statement headpiece that glistened like snowflakes throughout the night. Later on in the evening she changed into an equally stunning, form fitting gown that flared into fun and flirty feathers. The only thing that shone brighter than the winter décor at this luxurious wedding was Leslia and Leander’s love for each other. This beautiful wedding photographed by KBobb Photography is also featured in our Spring/Summer issue which is on newsstands now.

Imagine getting married at a venue with bright tropical colors, lush green golf courses, and gorgeous ocean views! Nara and Claude’s wedding in the Dominican Republic (DR) was truly a slice of paradise. Nara always knew she wanted to get married in the DR. Her mother is Dominican, and she has fond memories of family visits made there during the Christmas holidays and summer months. So when her college sweetheart Claude proposed to her, they already knew they were going to have a destination wedding.
The couple’s wedding theme was “a modern wedding with an Island flair.” Even though they had a destination wedding, Nara was adamant that she didn’t want their nuptials to feel to “beachy.” She wore a gorgeous Kenneth Pool ballgown, and the couple was married in a chapel on the breathtaking grounds of Casa de Campo.
Guests then headed outside for the cocktail hour and reception. Nara worked with B3 Events to make sure her Dominican heritage was incorporated into the festivities and Alfredo Esteban captured every festive moment. (This wedding is featured in the FW14 issue of our magazine).

"Prior to meeting Victor, my prayer for a future mate was, 'God, I don’t know who he is but I ask that you be with him, wherever he is, whatever he is doing and make Him a man after Your own heart,'" Wendy shares. The couple, grounded in faith, met through random occurrences. Then one day Victor asked Wendy to join him at Baugette De France in Berrien Springs, MI where they had lunch. Neither of them were particularly looking for a relationship but what they found was an undeniable connection. "After that lunch, I found myself wanting to spend more time with her. Soon I had to go back on my initial confession that I only wanted to be friends because I sensed something special about this young lady and our very natural relationship," says Victor. That casual lunch was just the beginning of what would be a love designed by God.

Tell us about the proposal: We pulled into Sylvan Park and started our walk, as we normally like to do. All of a sudden, I heard people singing but I couldn’t see where the voices were coming from. As we got closer I started to hear the The Lion King theme song, “The Circle of Life.” It was then that I asked, “What’s going on?” He just kept walking and laughing. My friends came from behind a cluster of trees disguised in masks and attire from The Lion King (hand drawn and painted by Victor). While singing the song, they led me to a gazebo that had a table with a wrapped box. I walked over to the box and was instructed to open it. Inside the box were puzzle pieces that I started to put together. When I was done, there was one piece missing. I looked over at Victor, and asked where the puzzle piece was. He started looking around, and I joined him as we looked in the gift box I had just finished opening. After looking and looking, he pulled the missing puzzle piece out of his pocket and gave it to me. I placed the recovered piece in the puzzle and it was complete. The puzzle pictured the Lion King playbill. Victor then started talking about the time we first met and how everything fell into place. He talked of a puzzle he and I had completed the year before, a 1,000 piece black and white puzzle of the Brooklyn Bridge. At the end of that long project, we decided to make a list of the many lessons we had learned through that process. Lesson #13 reminded us not get so bogged down in one piece that we miss the masterpiece. Victor then asked me to look at the completed puzzle again. As I looked at it, I noticed there were words around the mane of the lion. He asked me if I saw them and asked me to read them out loud. As I started tracing them, I read out loud, “Will you marry me?” I turned around to look at him and there he was down on one knee. He then said, “I failed to tell you that I began praying for my wife during the years that you experienced some darkness, and I rejoice because God’s work is undeniable. To help me accomplish His will I need your help…ndikupempha undikwatire.” “Ndikupempha undikwatile” means, “Will you Marry Me?” in Chichewa (my mother tongue). What was your wedding dress style? And what was your favorite accessory? My dress was a sweetheart neckline, fit and flare with lace applique. My favorite wedding accessory was my bridal bouquet which had a picture of my father and I. 2 months before our wedding, my father passed away suddenly. Though having the picture on my bouquet didn't bring him back, it certainly let me know he would've loved to be there. Our first look was my favorite memory, it was such a raw, emotional experience for both of us. - Victor How was culture incorporated in your wedding? We incorporated Malawian wedding traditions, being that I am Malawian. We had a lot of African music and dancing. We also had a well known Malawian celebration called Perekani Perekani. This is a time when family and friends throw money to the bride and groom while dancing. The money is essentially a gift to the bride and groom to help them in establishing their new home. What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
Your day will come and something WILL go wrong, take it all in stride and enjoy every moment because you will remember a lot more than you think. You would rather have memories of the joy, love, and laughter of that day than negative memories.
Congratulations to Wendy and Victor on their nuptials. We're so honored that you shared your gorgeous day with us! View the entire gallery of this stunning wedding here.
Rupa Patel says her favorite moment during the reception of her destination wedding to Dhiren, besides dancing the night away, was hearing her husband’s emotional speech. So beautiful!
The couple met at Rupa's birthday party and again while traveling with close friends but it wasn't until after a Facebook interaction that the two began dating. As time went on, Dhiren would soon ask his sister to help out for his elaborate proposal.
Wedding Date: August 16, 2014 Wedding Destination: London, England First Dance Song: “Hold On, We're Going Home” by Drake
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
Dhiren and I went for a walk on West Wittering Beach when we first started dating which was very romantic. On our anniversary, Dhiren thought it would be nice to visit the beach again, but I didn't know where exactly we were going so it was a surprise. We were walking along the beach and Dhiren kept walking away from me and in different directions. He pointed to an arrow in the sand and I followed the arrows. That’s when I saw the words 'Rupa will you marry me?’ written in the sand. Dhiren got down on one knee and proposed.
His sister had come down before us and written in the sand and Dhiren couldn't find where she had written it which is why he kept walking all over the beach!
Dhiren and I met through my cousin, Neil who brought Dhiren along to my birthday party one day. We met again when a large group of us went to Vienna and Hamberg. A couple of years later, Dhiren plucked up the courage to ask me out on Facebook. Although there is a debate about who instigated the chat. I did message him first to find out if I could buy an ipod using his discount and then it started from there.
Wedding Style
My wedding dress was a traditional red and white lengha with a splash of green with very detailed embroidery and it was extremely heavy! My favourite accessories were my bangles as my Uncles had purchased them for me from India, which is a tradition within our culture.
Help a bride-to-be out!
I highly recommend Pinterest as it really helps to bring your ideas together. Planning a wedding will no doubt be stressful at points but try to take a step back and have fun throughout the process! Not everything does and will go to plan on the day of the wedding but remember to stay positive and it will all somehow work out on the big day. Have fun & enjoy it!
Prayer and patience was the makeup of DeNeitra and Lawrence's lovely destination wedding in Mexico. And "beach chic" was the theme. A California wedding planner, DeNeitra planned every detail of the event with grace and care. The couple had an intimate beach ceremony for close family and friends, followed by a reception for which all guests were in attendance. Soft hues of pink and blue decorated the outdoor occasion, and as the sun set, the party ensued.
DeNeitra and Lawrence hosted their wedding party at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort in Mexico. But there was no question that love was their true destination.
Wedding Date:3/01/2014 Wedding Location: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Wedding Theme: Beach Chic First Dance Song: Anita Baker - You Bring Me Joy Wedding Flowers: Roses, ranunculus and other local flowers Wedding Menu Favorite: The Poblana Soup was amazing! My guests still talk about it! Bridesmaids Gifts: I got my bridesmaids custom robes and their accessories. Groomsmen Gifts: Lawrence got his groomsmen custom ties and books (Kingdom Man by Tony Evans and Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby)
Tell us all about the proposal!
Lawrence proposed during his birthday weekend getaway to Cambria, CA. It was July 4th and we went to the beach and climbed on top of a rock where we prayed and Lawrence serenaded me with a song he wrote me. After the song he asked me to be his wife. Absolutely unexpected and completely amazing!
Memories
My best memory from our wedding day was praying with Lawrence before the ceremony. As a wedding planner I always encourage my couples to take a moment with each other before they walk down the aisle. There's a calming power in praying with the one you love. We opted to not see each other prior to the wedding but we prayed holding hands on opposite sides of a wall. It was beautiful. My second favorite memory from the wedding day was having my dad walk me down the aisle. I was so nervous and he kept telling me I looked beautiful and that the day was all about Lawrence and I. Total perfection! Okay. . .just one more favorite memory - the entire wedding weekend experience was amazing. For an entire weekend we were surrounded by the people we love and who truly love and pour into us.
Help a bride-to-be out!
I always share this advice with my clients and engaged friends but, it's actually a piece of advice that I didn't heed during the planning process. Take a few days or weeks to enjoy being ENGAGED. Don't plan a thing. Get away from Pinterest, put down your Munaluchi magazine and just take it all in. You're marrying the man of your dreams. The engagement process goes by so quickly. . .you'll be his wife for a lifetime, but you only get to be his fiance' for a short while. Enjoy it before the craziness ensues!
Memories "I would have to say the moment that I saw him for the first time. It was minutes before we walked down the aisle. He didn't want to see me so he was blindfolded and I came up from behind as he stood under a beautiful trellis in the gardens of the Great House where we got married. He stood with his hand against one of the columns and his legs crossed, 007 was the first thought that came to mind."
Mrs. Sky Hoo recalls the first time she saw her husband as she was approaching the altar on their wedding day. One of the most anticipated moments during a wedding is when the audience sees the bride walking down to the aisle. Nothing is more beautiful than witnessing a union of two people who have vowed to love each other for better or worse, till death do them part.
Directly after their wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Mario Hoo decided to do a spontaneous Trash the Dress session on the captivating Montego Bay beach! Mrs. Hoo wore a classic, timeless, mermaid lace dress with a plunging back completed with a satin belt cinched around the waist. The wedding dress shopping experience was surprisingly effortless for Sky despite claiming that she was an indecisive person. This dress was one out of six she tried on and was the dress!
How They Met "Mario and I were introduced by a mutual friend while on vacation in Jamaica. She completely played cupid, telling me he was interested in meeting me, and telling him I was interested in meeting him when in fact, neither of us had seen each other before the moment we met. After a year and a half of living through a long-distance relationship (I was in Florida and he was in DC), I made the move to DC (for work of course). "
The Proposal "While visiting Florida for my sister's baby shower, Mario pulled off the most unsuspecting proposal, my nails hadn't even been manicured. He took me out for a relaxing and romantic dinner at Blue Moon Fish and Co along Ft. Lauderdale's beautiful inter-coastal under the guise of "celebrating successfully pulling off my sister's baby shower". With a cool and calming breeze at 75 degrees and a table overlooking the water, it was the perfect setting, but he didn't do it then. We wined, dined, laughed and reminisced about our relationship. After dinner, we strolled down the boardwalk and continued our conversation holding hands under the moon light. A great way to end the night...or so I thought...."
"We had made plans to see a movie back at our friends' house where we were staying. We got back and shared details of our lovely dinner before I headed off to the bedroom to 'slip into something more comfortable'. I opened the door to a beautiful candle-lit walkway, which led to the bed laced with rose petals in the shape of a heart. I quickly turned around to find Mario on one knee. I have no idea what he said in that moment, it's still a blur...but I did make out the words "will you make me the luckiest man by becoming my wife", to which I answered "Absolutely!""
Advice for Brides-to-Be "It is absolutely important that couples stay true to each other and stay grounded in their values throughout the entire wedding planning process. The process is exciting but can be very stressful. Couples must be careful not to get caught up. "
"Have an honest conversation at the beginning to establish what's important, lay the ground rules and stay true to them no matter what. Don't allow family, money, or friends to get in the way. The day will come and go but you will always have each other."

Class, elegance and sophistication was infused into every aspect of Uwayemen’s (Uwa) and Reagan’s destination wedding in Puerto Rico. They decided on a light color scheme of blush, ivory and gold. Blush stationery with intricate gold lace trim, gold chargers and candelabras, and ivory and blush flowers all helped create a chic ambiance. Uwa stunned in three gowns. Her first dress was a beaded mermaid dress by Steven Yearick, which she accessorized with a stunning Hera headpiece from Bo and Luca. Uwa wore this gown for a very special first dance. She reminisces, “We had two songs for our first dance; the second song was "One for me" by Macy Gray where we had all couples come out and dance with us. It was beautiful.”
The couple then made a second entrance honoring their Nigerian culture. Uwa recalls, “We [entered again wearing] our tradition Nigerian outfits, and dancing to a popular Nigerian song at the time, ‘High-life dorobuci.’ All our family members (parents and siblings) wore Nigerian attire too.”
To end the night, Uwa changed in a third dress with straps making it easier for her to dance the night away. The festivities ended with a gorgeous fireworks display! While the dress changes, stunning ivory and gold décor and fireworks definitely made a great impression on guests, Uwa stresses that all of the glitz and glamour should not get in the way of enjoying your wedding. She shares, “Enjoy your wedding day - you've worked so hard the past months for it. It's important to focus on the love between you and your husband, and ignore anything you "think" might not be going the way you planned.” We couldn’t agree more.

First dance song:John Legend - You and I (nobody in the World) Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: Bridesmaids: Perfumes/robes/earrings/makeup. Groomsmen: Colognes and shaving kits Favorite item on the menu: Intermezzo was my favorite; my husband enjoyed his steak and risotto. Intermezzo is a palate cleanser that is served before the main course to cleanse ones palate and allow one savor the next meal. I enjoyed my lemon intermezzo
On incorporating culture:
During the wedding, we changed into our Nigerian outfits to represent our cultures. We made a second entrance in our tradition Nigerian outfits, dancing to a popular Nigerian song at the time, "High-life dorobuci." All our family members (parents and siblings) wore Nigerian attires too.

Wedding Gown: The bride's gorgeous gown was from Terry Costa in Dallas. The gown was an empire waist gown completed with a tulle top with elegant crystal pearl bead work embellishing the sheer back. How They Met: Nichole's best friend was in town visiting so of course it made sense that she was going to go to a favorite dance spot and celebrate! On that Friday night, Nichole and her best friend were relaxing a bit after all the dancing and catching up. Then a friend Nichole's walked over and greeted them. The friend also mentioned to Nichole that their was someone they would like her to meet. Nichole accepted and then as her friend went to go them. Minutes later she saw a gentleman approaching her direction that caught her eye... "...That someone was Tracy. He introduced his self to us. Immediately I thought this guy is handsome!!! We talked a bit, he asked me to dance, and we've been dancing ever since. Shortly thereafter we went on our first date, very early on I knew he was the one! " It was the beginning of a something great for Nichole...
The Proposal: Nichole had this feeling that Tracy might propose sooner or later. But she felt as though Tracy was building up her anticipation. Especially in February, one year during the entire month, when he was taking her to all places where he could propose such as the Times Square and out of state at his family's house. She was having engagement fever!
Now the proposal was something Tracy had meticulously planned..."Well when we were boarding our flight back to Dallas on Sunday and there was no proposal.... guess who had a poked out lip? (ME) LOL!!!! We returned home and back to everyday life. The following Tuesday I had to travel for work. Unbeknownst to me Tracy had connected with my colleague Ed and arranged for Ed to reschedule our travel so that Ed and I would end up in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night. Ed made up some story about having to get back to OKC to have dinner with his uncle.
So it's Wednesday February 26th 5:00 p.m., I'm driving.... just as Ed and I are pulling into our hotel I got all worked up over something I heard on the radio. As we are checking in I was thinking where am I going to have dinner and by gosh I sure could use a cocktail... how am I going to accomplish that if Ed's going to take our car and have dinner with his uncle? Just as I'm finishing up registration I start inquiring about the very important topics of "dinner and drinks". I hear Tracy's voice come from behind me.... I was totally surprised and caught off guard. Now when you travel like I do.... being on the road can be very lonely so to hear his voice and know that he was there was overwhelming. After I stopped saying "baby you're here... baby you're here....." he handed me a dozen red roses. He whisked me away in a car to VAST, a beautiful restaurant on the 49th floor of Devon Towers in downtown Oklahoma City.
After a beautiful dinner.... he got down on one knee and made me the happiest woman alive when he asked me to be his wife!!!! YES YES YES!!!!!"
Memories from The Big Day
"We had 3 wonderful days with all of our guest so we got to enjoy each other and create so many wonderful memories. Although one moment in particular stands out, our wedding was in a chapel, right outside the chapel was the Gulf of Mexico. Walking up to the chapel before entering, I felt overwhelmed with love and gratitude for that moment. When I turned and entered the chapel tears of joy started streaming down my face when I saw Tracy, our family, and friends. It was the perfect/best day of my life!"
Advice from the Bride
"Stay in your budget. Prioritize, not all the wants are necessity. It's a day and you have to think about a lifetime. We splurged on a few things and I'm happy we did but there were some things that could have done without."
Nichole married the man of her dreams and had her wedding near a captivating beach in Mexico. We at Munaluchi wish this fun, bold, and exciting couple the best in their marriage!

I went to pick up Andy from the airport as he was flying into Miami for Thanksgiving. He had a couple of flight delays and arrived pretty late that night. I was frustrated and ready to go to his parents place but he wanted to stop at a friend’s place first. I was aggravated and really not interested. As we get closer to his friend’s home, he said he couldn’t remember the address and asked to pull over into our old high school. At that point, he asked me to get out of the car. He then got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him in the very location that we met.
Wedding Style
I had my two best friends fly into New York for the weekend and we went around to a ton of stores shopping for dresses. My husband went out of town that weekend to give us our time alone. It was so much fun trying on different dresses and being with my closest friends.
Memories
The best memory of the wedding was the reception. It went by so fast but all I can remember is everyone having so much fun and that there were so many smiles in the room.
When thinking of how Mesha and Damon made it to the altar it's the "you've got mail" kind of love story you only see in movies. The couple met in a Yahoo group chat exclusively for college students. Damon was attending the University of North Texas, while Mesha was pursuing a degree at Sam Houston State University. After realizing that they had many things in common they continued talking via Yahoo messenger for several weeks. They exchanged email addresses after Yahoo messaging lost its luster but lost touch shortly after. A few months later Mesha received an email from Damon looking to reconnect. In between classes they'd send emails to one another developing the love that would lead them to say "I do."
Coterie member Renee's Eventi planned the beautiful Mexican destination wedding. Coordinator, Lakisha, describes the wedding as a gorgeous and lush destination beach wedding. "With the beautiful Cancun Riviera blue water as their back drop, Mesha and Damon exchanged loving vows to each other. The 4-day celebration, with approximately 60 guests, was full of love, laughter and fun!" Lakisha shares. Take a look at their photos by Adventure Photos Mexico.

On September 7 Damon told Mesha to clear her scheduled to celebrate a successful and stressful summer. Before heading out for their 7pm reservation Damon asked Mesha to check her email. After a weird glance, she complied. She found an email titled "I am very proud of you." Attached was a letter that ended with the sentence "Come to the back room!!!" There, Mesha found Damon on his knees with a black velvet box containing an emerald cut halo diamond ring. They called and shared the news with their parents. To Mesha’s surprise her parents were already in the know because Damon called them in advance to request their blessing.
What I loved most about Damon's proposal was how he did it. It was so us! I remember the long emails we'd send back and forth in college. I mean some of them could easily be considered a dissertation LOL. Reading his emails were the highlight of my day and it really gave us a chance to get to know each other on a deeper level. I personally think that’s why Damon and I are such great friends. We feel in love with each other mentally, in addition to physically -Mesha
What was your wedding dress style and how was your shopping experience? My dress was 100% me! It's chic, a touch of modern and traditional, simple but classy. I selected a day and was determined to find my dress on that day. We had three shops lined up - all in one day. My family lives out of town so that added a little pressure. I really wanted to my mom there when I found THE dress. With me was my mom, mother-in-law, niece, two of my bridesmaids and my wedding coordinator (who's also a good friend). Shop 1 - I tried on about 6-7 dresses. There was one that stood out for me, but for whatever reason I didn't purchase it. Shop 2 - I tried on about 3-4 dresses and actually cried with one. Of course we purchased that one. Clearly tears can be deceiving because by 10 pm that night I was panicking because in my heart of hearts I knew I had purchased the wrong dress. By midnight I emailed the shop and on Monday begged for my deposit back and pretty much told my fiancé that deposit back or not I was not walking down the aisle in that dress. He was so tired of me crying about it and agreed. Long story short they gave me the deposit back. By Tuesday I went back to shop 1 and got THE dress. The one that stood out to me. The one that had my name on it. The one that was twice as much as the other dress but I didn't care because it was THE dress. My dress was a fit and flare sweetheart neckline, ivory corset with an array of soft tulle at the bottom (I called it organized chaos which totally matches my personality) that had soft crystals in it. I added a Swarovski crystal sash to the dress. I hated the idea of a veil, but my hubby really wanted it. So the compromise was a birdcage with accent crystals to compliment my sash. What are some of your favorite memories of your wedding day? The best memories were walking down the steps seeing the ceremony set-up (which was exactly what I wanted) and then seeing the smile and anticipation on my husband's face. He looked like a man that was ready to get married. He didn't have the nervous scared look, but rather confident and ready to get this thing going. I thought I'd have to remind myself to smile because I'd be nervous. I didn't. If anything I had to remind myself to calm down and not show ALL my pearly whites! What advice do you have for our brides-to-be? Destination. Destination. Destination. The best decision ever. Here's the thing though, just because its destination doesn't necessarily mean it will be cheaper. For me, the design was very important. While I wanted the exotic location and intimate feel, I also wanted the day to feel like a traditional wedding and that came at a price. I’d also tell you to remember to enjoy the journey and the wedding. I feel bad for brides that are all stressed out before the wedding and even more so on their wedding day. I was determined to enjoy my day. Lastly, and here’s the biggie; hire, at the very least, a month of coordinator. While I really wanted to plan my own wedding, I knew that I wanted to enjoy the day and have someone I trust advise me throughout the journey. I wanted someone who was there 100% for me and to make sure that every detail was carried out. So we paid for our coordinator to come with us. The best gift we could have ever given ourselves. She was absolutely amazing. It’s because of her that I felt like a bride from the time we got to Mexico until we left for our honeymoon. I honestly can’t say enough about her.

Emmanuelle and Alex, from Calgary, AB, Canada took to the sunny coast of Costa Rica for a very intimate destination wedding with their closest family and friends. Staying at Villa Hermosas, the lovely couple exchanged vows in the winter, just a few days before Valentine’s Day.
Wedding Date: February 2, 2014 Wedding Location: Villa Hermosas in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Emmanuelle and Alex along with all of their guests stayed at Villa Hermosas in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, which is located right on the beach and surrounded by palm trees, making this the picture perfect backdrop for the big day.
Keeping with the intimate theme, the couple decided on a small bridal party. Emmanuelle shimmered in her absolutely stunning dress and custom made earrings, and opted for no veil, instead highlighting her hair with a few simple and absolutely beautiful local flowers. Alex was color coordinated for this colorful, diverse ocean side wedding, pulling the entire look together perfectly.
After being announced as Mr. and Mrs. Popa, guests celebrated with a bubble party as the newly married couple walked down the aisle for the first time as one. Setting out on an isolated path near the ocean, Emmanuelle and Alex took in the beauty of the exotic destination of Costa Rica and had a moment to reflect on the beauty to come in their own marriage, 'til death do them part.
The couple incorporated many simple items from Costa Rica into their big day, making it more than just a setting. For instance, the table numbers were shells with writing on the inside portion. Signs for "welcome" and "ceremony" were written on driftwood from the beach. The ceremony arch was made from bamboo, which is readily available in Costa Rica. Lasting well into the night, Emmanuelle and Alex celebrated their union in paradise long after the sun set, making for some of the most beautiful shots of the entire day. So beautiful.
